The French garden market grew by 3.5 per cent in 2019. The two biggest distribution channels, DIY stores and garden centres, each increased by around 4 per cent. Home improvement stores account for a market share of 33 per cent and garden centres for 25 per cent. In third place are rural trading enterprises ("Libre-Service Agricole") with a share of 15 per cent and growth of roughly 3 per cent. The figures were released by the Promojardin industry association.
Online retailing grew fastest; increasing by 14 per cent, this segment is now responsible for 6 per cent of sales. A similarly high growth rate of 13 per cent was achieved by furniture retailers, although these only account for 1 per cent of overall sales in the sector.
